"I have ordered all the ranks and files of the police to step up security," Indonesia`s National Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesias National Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti has called on his personnel to beef up security arrangements in the respective regions following the bombing incident in Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday.

"I have ordered all the ranks and files of the police to step up security," he affirmed here on Wednesday.

Badrodin noted that security must be increased at public locations, such as shopping centers and tourist attractions.

"Threats are always present. In view of this, the security at vital locations must be increased," he emphasized.

In the bombing incident near the Erawan Hindu shrine in Bangkok, 20 people were killed, and 123 others were wounded.

At least 11 foreigners were killed in the incident including from China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi has confirmed that two Indonesian nationals were victims of the bomb explosion in Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday evening.

"Two Indonesian nationals were victims of the explosion, of whom one is dead, and the other is wounded," Minister Marsudi remarked at the Foreign Affairs Ministers Office on Tuesday.

In this regard, the minister had sought a confirmation from Indonesias Ambassador to Thailand, Lutfi Rauf, who revealed that a 61-year-old Indonesian male had been wounded and was now admitted at the Hua Chiew Hospital in Bangkok.

"The man has been identified by the initials HI and will undergo surgery," she noted.

Meanwhile, the deceased victim, identified as "LLT," was a 61-year-old Indonesian female.

The body of LLT has been moved to a police hospital in Bangkok.

"Mr HI and Mrs LLT were a married couple who had come from Jakarta," the minister remarked.

Marsudi added that the initials were being used to protect the interests of the victims families.

With regard to any tip-off regarding other Indonesian nationals who might have been injured during the blast, the Indonesian Embassys officials have been scouring hospitals around Bangkok.

Until now, search operations had been carried out in 15 hospitals, Minister Marsudi noted.

The embassy in Bangkok had also issued some advisories to Indonesians, who were staying in or visiting Thailand, urging them to exercise caution and to avoid all places, which are temporarily closed.

Individuals, who have information about any other blast-affected Indonesians, or having family members currently visiting Thailand, have been urged by the embassy in Bangkok to immediately call the hotline number +66929031103.

On Tuesday morning, the Thai Police revised the death toll of Monday nights bombing to 20, from 19, and said that 125 people had been injured and were seeking medical assistance.(*)
