He told the Ambassador of India to Indonesia, Mr. Gurjit Singh in a meeting today that India and Indonesia had similar challenges in the field of education, vocational training and the like and he wanted to start a process of experience sharing, which was lacking in our engagement so far.
Ambassador Gurjit Singh explained to him the various initiatives of the Government of India including the Skills Development, Digital India and the 50 year old ITEC Programme and offered the use of the programme to support the objectives of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia.
They also discussed issues like twinning of universities, opening of chairs and focusing on modern educational methods including at the level of schools.
The Minister expressed interest in the use of technology to increase educational outreach and to expand Teacher Training and the Mid-day Meal programme which was starting to operate in Eastern Indonesia now.
He also expressed interest in the planning and administration aspects of education and hopes to initiate a process of greater collaboration between India and Indonesia.
Ambassador Gurjit Singh presented a copy of Masala Bumbu which has two chapters on a proposed agenda for collaboration on Human Resource Development and the Challenges of Youthful Countries.
Earlier in the day, Ambassador Gurjit Singh also met the new Cabinet Secretary H.E. Mr. Pramono Anung Wibowo and discussed the entire gamut of India-Indonesia engagement and the Strategic Partnership to add vigor to the relationship which has been enhanced since the meeting of Prime Minister Modi and President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in November last year.
