Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) discussed economic issues with 23 rectors of state institutes of higher learning across Indonesia during a luncheon at the State Palace here on Thursday.

"Let me tell you a little bit about the current economic situation. In my view, the political situation, thank God, has been stable. There is also no problem with security and stability," the president stated at the luncheon.

According to the presidential communication team, the meeting with the rectors is part of the presidents routine agenda aimed at enabling him to interact with various elements of the community.

At the meeting, the president was accompanied by Chief of the Presidential Staff Teten Masduki and Minister/State Secretary Pratikno.

Among the rectors present were Muhammad Anis of the University of Indonesia (UI), Dwikorita Karnawati of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Kadarsa Suryadi of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Herry Suhardiyanto of the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB), and Werry Darta Taifur of Andalas University.

Earlier, on Monday (Sept. 7), President Jokowi also met the deans of economics faculties from noted universities across the country to discuss the current economic conditions.

Masduki remarked that the president was keen to hear the views of academics from across the country for seeking solutions to the current economic problems faced by the country.
