We have discussed how the economic and industry committee will assist the government, particularly the President."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government is planning to set up a National Industry and Economic Committee (KEIN) with one of its advisors being drawn from the economic field, a senior party leader said.

"There is a discussion on setting up the institution. The institution used to be named the National Economic Committee (KEN). Possibly, its later name is an industry economic committee because we are moving into an industrial state where downstream industries must be developed," Sutrisno Bachir, who is the Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), said at the State Palace here on Thursday.

He added that the manufacturing industry must be developed so that Indonesia does not become only an importing nation, but also a producing state.

"We have discussed how the economic and industry committee will assist the government, particularly the President. Its name in the past was KEN and it was chaired by Chairul Tanjung," he said.

He added that the President is still discussing the establishment of the committee, which will be led by economists, businessmen and practitioners in the economic field.

If KEIN is set up later, it will be composed of 20 members. The President is drafting regulations on the membership of the KEIN, Bachir added.
