Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said as a witness in the case of alleged bribery related to a micro-hydro power plant in Deiyai district, Papua province.

"Sudirman Said was summoned as a witness in the case against RB," acting chief of KPKs public relations bureau, Yuyuk Andriati, said here on Friday.

However, Said did not appear.

Said is the second official of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry to give testimony in the case.

Earlier, the anti-graft body questioned Director General of the New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Rida Maulana in the same case.

A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VII overseeing energy, identified by her initials as DYL, held a meeting with the minister and his staff on April 8, 2014.

At the meeting, DYL touched on the potentials to build a new power plant in Papua, although the easternmost Indonesian province is not her electoral constituency.

Jamaluddin Jafar of the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction in the DPR, who was questioned by the KPK on Thursday (Nov 5), said the minister offered no response to the proposal at the meeting.

On Wednesday (Nov 11), Samuel Hendrik, DYLs lawyer, said the chief of the Energy and Mineral Resources Office in Deyai, identified as IA, met DYL to convey the proposal.

"When she was holding a working meeting with the ministry, IA came to present the proposal to DYL. He asked her to pass it on to the ministry. This happened around March," Samuel said.

The KPK arrested DYL at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on October 20.

The bribe was given to Dewie, along with her assistant, identified as BWH, and her private secretary, identified as RB, who have been accused of receiving bribes from owner of PT Abdi Bumi Cendrawasih, identified as S, and chief of the Energy and Mineral Resources Office, identified as IA.

Both S and IA were arrested at a restaurant in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.

The bribe was meant to pave the way for the inclusion of a Rp250 billion project in the 2014 state budget.(*)
