Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi signed a letter of intent to host the international MotoGP race here in Indonesia in 2017 to be sent to Dorna Sports in Madrid, Spain, before November 20, 2015.

"The letter of intent will also be signed by Dornas CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta. This letter of intent also showcases Indonesias seriousness to host the world famous motorcycle racing event," Gatot S. Dewa Broto, the Ministrys public communications chief, stated here on Wednesday.

The proposal of the letter to Dorna Sports, as the commercial rights holder for the motorcycling sport of MotoGP, is important as the basic consideration document to host the 2017 MotoGP.

According to the presentation of the stages conveyed by Ezpeleta during a recent visit to Indonesia, the letter is necessary as it will serve as the basis for Indonesia to host the MotoGP in the meeting with the Federation of International Motorcycling (FIM).

The FIM will set the 2017 race agenda, including the MotoGP races in Vienna, Austria, on November 21, 2015.

Indonesia will also need the 2017 MotoGp Master plan besides the letter of intent.

"The master plan and presidential decree draft are now under completion and can be proposed later, but Dorna needs the letter of intent," he added.

The Indonesian governments determination to hold the motor racing championship is quite strong.

The government has been coordinating with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Tourism along with the management of the Sentul International Circuit.

Before the signing of the letter of intent, the Youth and Sports Ministry had sent an official notification to Dorna two months ago that demonstrated Indonesias seriousness to host the 2017 MotoGP race.

"After the letter of intent, another agreement between the Indonesian government and Dorna, as the race event promoter, should be reached before January 30, 2016.

The Indonesian government has agreed to meet administrative, technical, and financial obligations, Gatot added.(*)
