"The NU intellectuals must be ready to deal with the ISIS` calumnies. If they (ISIS campaigners) come to Indonesia, they must be rejected," Aqil Siraj stated.
Cirebon, W Java (ANTARA News) - The Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Executive Chairman, Said Aqil Siraj, has called on all Indonesian Muslims to reject the teachings of ISIS and other hardliners because what they teach endangers the nation.

"The NU intellectuals must be ready to deal with the ISIS calumnies. If they (ISIS campaigners) come to Indonesia, they must be rejected," he said here Friday in response to the threats posed by the deadly terrorist group to Indonesia.

Siraj said that behind the ISIS recent claim that it was responsible for the deadly coordinated attacks in Paris, there was an agenda to widen its territory to Asia in 2017. The militant group has even planned to build a caliphate, whose capital city is one of the former Soviet Union countries, in 2022.

"Thus, the ISIS agenda includes spreading in Asia in 2017 and ruling the world by building a caliphate in 2022," he said, adding that the entire Indonesian population, particularly NU members, must reject the hardline teachings because they follow the divide-and-rule principle that endangers the nations unity.

Defending Indonesia against people who want to ruin the country is the duty of every Muslim as ordered by the fatwa or the legal edict of NUs founder, KH Hasyim Asyari, he said.

The security personnel should also be able to guarantee the nations safety, said the chairman of the countrys biggest Muslim organization. (*)
