Sukabumi, West Java (ANTARA News) - Indonesias U-19 mens rafting team won a silver medal in the slalom category at the World Rafting Championship 2015 in Citarik river, Sukabumi, West Java, on Wednesday.

"The team lost a lot of concentration and, consequently, failed to pass the line first," coach Aceng Supendi said after the competition.

The Indonesian team finished in four minutes, 03.07 seconds after the Russian team clocked 3:38.88 while the team from Slovakia finished third with a bronze medal, clocking 4:06.08.

In the U-19 womens slalom, the Russian team won the gold medal with its best time of 4 minutes 37.52 seconds.

Australia took the second place, clocking a timing of 4:49.69 while the third place was secured by the Brazilian team which finished the race in 5 minutes 46.09 seconds.

In the U-19 womens event, the Indonesian team finished fourth, clocking 5:59.74 after receiving a 115 seconds penalty for failing to pass in the second attempt Poles 3,4,9,10 and 14.

The 300-meter slalom event only allows for two attempts to pass the five poles.

A team will be given a penalty of 5 seconds if it is able to pass the line but one of its rafters ends up touching the pole, and a penalty of 50 seconds if they failed to pass the poles according to the rule.

A 9-km down river race is scheduled in the U-23 and U-19 categories on Thursday morning.

On Tuesday, the Indonesian U-19 mens and womens teams contributed a gold medal and three bronze medals from sprint and head-to-head events.

The Indonesian U-23 mens and womens teams, both contributed a bronze medal each, in the slalom category.

Brazil won the gold medal clocking 3:12.67 while Japan took home the silver medal, clocking 3:31.86.

The womens team from Czech Republic won a gold medal in the slalom category, clocking 4:39.22 while the silver medal was won by the team from Brazil.(*)
