Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian mathematics team at the Junior High School (SMP) level won five gold, six silver and nine bronze medals in the International Teenagers Mathematics Olympiad (ITMO) 2015 held in Sunga Petani, Kedah, Malaysia.

This international competition saw around 160 participants from 11 countries, divided into 40 teams, and included maths wizards from Bulgaria, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

"The participants had to play in two contests, an individual test and a team contest. All participants had to participate in both these," Coaching Director for SMP Supriano stated when contacted here on Monday.

Indonesian Junior High School Development Directorate sent 15 students who won gold, silver, and bronze medals in the National Science Olympiad (OSN) 2015 in Palu, Central Sulawesi.

Supriano explained that before being sent to Malaysia, they were trained at the Science Education Clinic (KPM) in Bogor, W Java for 6 weeks. They were given intensive training in mathematics, physical and spiritual education and character education based on the concept of family, and recreation.

Indonesian participants who won gold medals at ITMO 2015 in the individual event are Irfan Urane Azis, Hardyansel Kesuma, Valentino Dante T., Claudeon Reinard S while the winner on the group category was INA-C team that comprised Irfan Urane Azis, Hardyansel Kesuma and Lucia Tirta Gunawan, Radian.
