Let us build a synergy although we have different backgrounds."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla has seen plurality existing in Indonesia as an extraordinary strength of the country, instead of an obstacle in implementing the state defense program.

"Plurality could become an extraordinary strength if we could maintain it properly," Kalla said when speaking in a function to commemorate the 67th State Defense Day held in the National Monument (Monas) square, here Saturday.

History showed that nations that failed to maintain plurality, ended in disarray and separation, he said.

Indonesias history has proven that unity could help face various challenges.

He called on every Indonesian to develop unity and togetherness. "Let us build a synergy although we have different backgrounds," he said.

Indonesia is currently facing various challenges such as a global economic competition, poverty, backwardness, and a social gap, according to the Vice President.

Every citizen must have access to education, health services, and energy, and no region should be isolated any longer, he added.

Teachers, paramedics, civil servants, traders and other professionals must participate in the state defense in accordance with their professions, he noted.
