Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The T-501 Golden Eagle fighter of the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) which crashed while participating in an air show at Adisutjipto Airport in Yogyakarta on Sunday was bought in 2013, a spokesman said.

"The South Korean-made aircraft was delivered to Indonesia in 2013. The plane is relatively new," Chief of the Indonesian Air Forces Information Center Commodore Dwi Badarmanto said in a press briefing here on Sunday.

The aircraft which was produced by Korean Aero Industries (KAI) was procured to strengthen the Air Squadron 15 of Iswahjudi Air Base in Madiun, East Java, he said.

"We dont know exactly the cause of the crash. But we have formed a team of investigators to look into the crash. We will also involve KAI in the investigation," he said.

The plane crashed in a plantation area, killing its pilot and co-pilot. The crash site is not far from the airport.

Following the accident, the authorities have decided to stop the air show, which had been held since Saturday. (*)
