Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A public service agency could be set up to ensure transparent and accountable management of the Energy Resilience Fund, stated National Development Planning Minister/Head of the National Development Planning Board Sofyan Djalil.

"It could be in the form of a public service agency. It could create a new account. Indeed, it should be ensured that accountability is maintained in the management of the Energy Resilience Fund," Djalil noted here on Monday.

The government is conducting a study on the management of the fund, he revealed.

In the near future, the government will outline a legal basis for the management and mechanism of the fund, which will be derived from levies collected from the sales of premium gasoline and diesel, he stated.

The levies will be respectively Rp300 per liter for diesel and Rp200 per liter for premium.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said expressed optimism that Rp15 trillion would be collected annually.

"We are fully aware of the issues on where to channel the money and how to use it," the minister affirmed.

The fund could be used as a reserve when there is a surge in oil prices and for the development of environment-friendly renewable energy.

Other countries apply carbon taxes on the sale of fuel oils, he added.(*)
