Three major cities, namely, Jakarta, Bandung (West Java province) and Surabaya, can act as reference cities that can help Indonesia attain a better EDB rank.
Surabaya, E. Java (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Chamber of Commerce of Surabaya, East Java province, assesses that this city can determine Indonesias Ease of Doing Business ranking in 2017.

"A survey conducted by the World Bank has shown that Indonesia is ranked 109 out of 189 countries. Indonesia should rise to a world ranking of 40," Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Surabaya, Jamhadi, said here on Tuesday.

To achieve this rank, it needs the support of all the stakeholders, he added.

He said Singapore claimed top EBD ranking while Malaysia slid down from 12 in 2015 to 18 this year. Thailand's rank also slipped down from 18 to 48.

Meanwhile, Indonesia rose from 120 to 109, Brunei Darussalam is now at 79, Vietnam is at 99, Cambodia at 133 and Laos is at 163.

According to Jamhadi, three major cities, namely, Jakarta, Bandung (West Java province) and Surabaya, can act as reference cities that can help Indonesia attain a better EDB rank.

The government has carried out a lot of improvement in decision making, and more will happen from time to time, especially as far as governance is concerned. "I believe that Jakarta, Bandung and Surabaya have the ability to do so," he said.

Jamhadi said he hopes that in 2017, Indonesia would be able to reach 40th rank in the EDB ranking. This ranking can serve as a guide for policy makers, and can help influence investors to do business in the country.

He said there are 10 important factors that are directly related to the business world, including permission to start a business, construction permits, electrical connector permits, land acquisition and property registration.

In addition, ease of getting credit, protection to investors, taxes, international trade, contract certainty and resolving insolvency also form a part of this list.(*)
