Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia perceives Hungary as a gateway to enter the European Union (EU) and Central European markets for its products and commodities, an official stated.

"Hungary is a strategic country to access the EU and Central Europe," Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir noted during a press briefing here on Thursday.

The spokesperson made the comment in connection with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbans visit to Indonesia on January 31-February 2 in a bid to boost bilateral cooperation between two countries.

Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Hungary were established in 1955, and the Indonesian diplomatic representative office was opened in Budapest in 1962.

The total value of bilateral trade between the two countries in 2014 stood at US$ 149.29 million, comprising US$86.87 million from exports and US$62.42 million from imports.

During his visit to Indonesia, Prime Minister Arbon and President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will witness the signing of two memoranda of understanding (MoU) between Hungary and Indonesia on cooperation in the fields of fisheries and aquaculture as well as on higher education.

When interviewed separately, Hungarian Ambassador to Indonesia Judit Nemeth-Pach stated that Prime Minister Orban will also lead a business delegation comprising 50 CEOs and other higher managerial level individuals representing Hungarian companies to meet their Indonesian counterparts during a business forum to be held in Jakarta on February 1.

"There will also be MoU signing events on business cooperation between Hungarian and Indonesian companies," she revealed.

After visiting Jakarta, Prime Minister Orban will head to Yogyakarta to present a general lecture at the University of Gadjah Mada on the theme of the importance of sovereignty in facing global challenges.
