Balikpapan, E Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Educational affairs office of Balikpapan city in East Kalimantan Province has forbidden all school students in the city from observing the Valentine Day which falls on February 14, 2016.

"The ban issued via a circular was addressed to the head of junior high schools SMP, MTS, and senior high schools SMA, and MA, and vocational schools SMK across the city," head of Balikpapan educational affairs office, Muhaimin, said here on Tuesday.

The ban was imposed vide circular number 420/290 /SKT/II/2016, regarding Valentine Day celebration, and was signed by the head of Balikpapan educational affairs office, Muhaimin.

The bans aim is to ensure that the students are not affected by any activities incompatible with local wisdom and Indonesian culture, as such tendencies could possibly impact students celebrating the Valentines Day, he stated.(*)
