Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta government is coordinating with all parties to raze the red-light district of Kalijodo along the Grogol River in West Jakarta.

"The coordination meeting will be held at the Jakarta Police Headquarters today. Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Tito Karnavian will chair the meeting, which will also be attended by the management of the community unit (RW) and neighborhood unit (RT)," Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, better known as Ahok, stated here on Monday.

Kalijodo, also known as a hub for illegal gambling, is home to hundreds of sex workers, brothel owners, and criminals.

The Jakarta administration has outlined several solutions for Kalijodos residents, Ahok noted.

"We will give an opportunity to the residents, who own Jakarta identity cards, to conduct trading activities. PD Pasar Jaya in cooperation with the Jakarta Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperatives Agency (KUMKMP) will facilitate them," Ahok remarked.

Meanwhile, the residents who hold Jakarta identity cards will be relocated to some flats.

"The Jakarta administration has recommended the residents who do not possess Jakarta identity cards to return to their hometowns. This our solution," he affirmed.

The Jakarta administration had earlier announced that it would no longer delay its plans to raze the Kalijodo area, which is located on the banks of the Western Flood Canal in Tambora.

Ahok will transform the Kalijodo area into a public and social facility as the red-light district stands on the green area.

"We want to build parks and roads there," he revealed.

Karnavian will coordinate with the Jakarta administration to implement the plan.(*)
