"The role of each of the suspects is under investigation," the National Police spokesman, Inspector General Anton Charliyan, said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Five terror suspects nabbed by the polices anti-terror squad Densus 88 in the East Java city of Malang on February 19 were linked to those who carried out January 14 attacks in Jakarta, a police officer said.

"The role of each of the suspects is under investigation," the National Police spokesman, Inspector General Anton Charliyan, told journalists here on Tuesday.

The suspected terrorists arrested by Densus 88 personnel were taken to Jakarta for further investigation.

"Another suspect was arrested in Cisauk in Tangerang area, Banten Province," he said, adding that the total number of suspects captured in Malang, East Java, was five, not six as reported earlier.

The Densus 88 personnel also seized several books from the hideouts of the suspects, who might have known about the attackers plan to launch the January 14, 2016 assault, he said.

According to the National Police, at least 40 people had been detained in connection with the polices probe to uncover the network of those involved in the Jakarta attack.

Head of the National Polices Public Information Division Brig. Gen. Agus Rianto said not all of the detainees were involved in the January 14 incident, and were allegedly involved in other cases of terrorism.

In response to the Densus 88s success in capturing the terror suspects in Malang, East Java, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Pandjaitan lauded the personnel of this anti-terror squad of the police.

The arrest helped the police in obtaining more evidence about the perpetrators of the suicide bombing and shooting attack in Jakarta on January 14, 2016, he informed journalists on Monday.

The arrests happened when Densus 88 personnel intercepted a van along the Ngijo Karangploso Road, Malang District, East Java Province, on Friday evening (February 19), and nabbed the suspects.

Following these arrests, the police raided several houses in Griya Permata Alam housing complex in Ngijo Village, Karangploso Sub-district, Malang District, believed to be the hideouts of the suspected terrorists. Achmad Ridho Wijaya, Rudi Hadianto, Romli, and Badrodin were among the suspects who were captured by the Densus 88 members.

Terrorism remains an endless challenge for Indonesia since a series of terrorist attacks, including one on the Philippines embassy and the Christmas Eve bombings that rocked Jakarta in 2000. The January 14, 2016 attack in Jakarta was the most recent act of terror.(*)
