Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) brought to a close the fifth Extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit on Palestine and Al Quds Al Sharif on Monday.

In his closing address at the two-day meeting, the president expressed gratitude to all the representatives of the OIC member states for attending the meeting.

"Let me express the highest possible gratitude and appreciation to ladies and gentlemen for their attendance and active contribution to this summit," he said.

He expressed the hope that all OIC member states would gather again at the OIC Summit to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, in April.

"May Allah Subhanahu wa Taala bless all of our steps. Thank you," he said.

When opening the summit at the Jakarta Convention Center on Sunday, the president had said the OIC must be a part of the solution rather than being seen as part of the problem.

"As per the theme of the summit, "United for a Just Solution," the OIC must be a part of the solution rather than being a part of the problem," he said.

The OIC was set up with the aim of supporting Palestines struggle for independence, he said.

Therefore, if the OIC fails to be part of a solution to the Palestinian issue, its existence will be of no relevance, he said.

"Once again, it will not be relevant anymore," he said.(*)
