Bengkulu (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale rocked the eastern part of Bengkulu province on Tuesday, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said.

The epicenter of the earthquake which struck at 01.24 p,m. local time was located 22 kilometers northwest of Lebong, Bengkulu, at a depth of 128 kilometers, the agency said in its official website.

"Most residents of Bengkulu city felt the earthquake for a while," Head of the Observation and Information Section of the BMKG Office in Bengkulu Sudiyanto said.

Bengkulu which is located at the meeting point of Indo-Australia and Eurasia active plates is one of the earthquake-prone areas in Indonesia.(*)
