Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesias mixed double players Riky Widianto and Richi Purpita Dili finished as a runner-up at the India Open 2016 Badminton Championship after losing to Chinese players in the final round on Sunday.

Riky/Richi was overpowered by Chinese Lu Kai/Huang Yaquion 13-21, 16-21 at the event in New Delhi.

Although they failed to win a champion title, they had shown improvement in their performance.

"We are grateful with the result. Certainly we are not satisfied with being a runner-up. We hope we can perform better later," Richi said as quoted by the All Indonesia Badminton Association public relations and media team in its website.

Riky/Richi was defeated by Lu/Huang because they were unable to launch attacks and were carried away by their opponents way of playing.

"We failed to develop our way of playing due to their dominance. They seemed to give no opportunity to us at all," she said.

The Indonesian duo have met the Chinese pair three times before but they have always failed to beat them.

"From the first round of the championship we had to work hard to be able to beat our opponents and we also lost a lot of our energy when we played against the Danish players in the quarterfinal round," she said.(*)
