Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government will soon ease regulations that hinder the implementation of the one million houses program for the people, according to Coordinating Minister for Economy Darmin Nasution.

"We need to simplify regulations," the minister remarked here on Tuesday while chairing a coordination meeting on simplifying regulations for constructing one million houses for the people of the low-income group.

During the course of the meeting, it was revealed that several overlapping regulations were not required to realize the construction of houses for the underprivileged, stated Nasution.

In addition, the developers were facing uncertainty, among other issues, with regard to the price of the permits.

During the verification process, it was found that there were 33 permits, which would be trimmed to 21.

The settlement of the licensing process, so far, took 753 to 916 days, with the licensing fees reaching Rp3.5 million for a five-hectare residential area.

"We are going to reevaluate this issue, so that people of the low-income group can really enjoy (the benefits)," Nasution stated while referring to the one million houses program, which had been initiated since mid-2015.

Within one or two months, he targets that the government will issue a package of regulations to resolve the problem.

Several challenges and obstacles continue to hinder the implementation of the housing program for the poor and people belonging to the low income group, both in terms of availability and demand.
