"Based on the clarification (by the two prosecutors) and investigations by the Junior Attorney General for Supervision, there was no case," Attorney General HM Prasetyo said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Attorney General Office (AGO) said head of the Jakarta high prosecution office Sudung Situmorang and assistant for special crimes Tomo Sitepu received no bribe from PT Brantas Abipraya.

"Based on the clarification (by the two prosecutors) and investigations by the Junior Attorney General for Supervision, there was no case," Attorney General HM Prasetyo said here on Friday.

The two said they were not aware of an attempt to bribe them in order to stop investigation into a corruption case involving fund belonging to the state company PT Brantas Abipraya, Prasetyo added.

He said AGO has handed over to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) the result of the the internal investigation concerning possible ethical code and disciplinary violation.

"Let the KPK go ahead with further investigations," he said.

On March 31 KPK nabbed two senior executives of PT Brantas Sudi Wantoko, and Dandung Pamularno and an individual Marudut at a hotel in Jakarta and confiscated US$148,835.

The money was allegedly to be used to bribe Sudung and Tomo and it was to be handed over by Marudut to Sudung who knows Marudut well.

Marudut was reported to have been seen visiting the high prosecution office several times lately.

Deputy chairman of KPK Laode M. Syarif said the anti graft agency appreciated ethical code investigations of the two prosecutors by the attorney general office.

However, KPK would not have to wait for the result of the ethical code probing to continue investigation of alleged bribery, Laode said.

"Ethical code has nothing to do with criminal case. Ethical issue is investigated by the attorney general office and investigations of criminal case is to be handled by KPK," he said.

He said the legal status of Sudung and Tomo is yet to be decided based on the result of investigations by KPK investigators.

He said KPK will continue coordination with the AGO in handling the case.

After being grilled on Thursday by KPK, Sudung gave only a brief comment ,"I have explained everything," and Tomo kept mum refusing to answer questions by reporters.(*)
