Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Deputy Foreign Minister A.M. Fachir praised the International Conference of Islamic Media (ICIM) being held on May 25-26, 2016.

"We highly laud this conference as it has an important role in supporting the global struggle for the independence of Palestine through the media," Fachir remarked after opening the ICIM at the ANTARA building here on Wednesday.

In his opening address, Fachir emphasized the importance of seeking solutions to humanitarian issues, including those being faced by Palestine.

The deputy foreign minister lauded the ICIM, which was crucial for mainstreaming the Palestinian issue since it had become a global concern that should be echoed persistently.

The media has a vital role in the struggle for the independence of Palestine, which has been illegally occupied by Israel for over six decades.

Fachir believes that despite several international forums fighting for the cause of Palestinian independence, the presence of ICIM will strengthen the global movement in terms of ensuring balanced reporting on Palestinian issues.

"What has so far been done in interstate forums for Palestine has not been reported properly. In addition, the existing efforts have not been followed up and popularized at the grassroots level," he pointed out.

Therefore, Fachir stated that the Islamic media had an important role in voicing messages related to the Palestinian cause.(*)
