Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Central Bank or Bank Indonesia (BI) has provided Rp160 trillion in cash in a bid to meet the liquidity needs during the fasting month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr or Lebaran 1437 Hegira, an official has said.

The amount is higher than the Rp124 trillion in cash money that was needed in 2015 because of a longer period of school holidays and the payment of the 13th salary of Civil Servants, according to Executive Director of BIs communication department, Tirta Segara, here on Wednesday.

"This year, we have provided Rp160 trillion," he stated, adding that part of the cash has been distributed to the regional BIs branch offices.

Tirta further disclosed that 28 percent of the Rp160 trillion has been distributed to Jakarta and its surrounding regions.

Some 33 percent of the Rp160 trillion has been distributed among different regions in Java islands, 20 percent for Sumatra Island, seven percent for Kalimantan Island and the rest for eastern Indonesia, he added.(*)
