So far there has been no one nominated to be the new chief."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) may choose one other than those in the proposed list of candidates to be the new chief of national police.

The president has full authority to choose a new police chief to replace Gen. Badrodin Haiti who is expected to be replaced at his retirement age by August this year.

The president does not have to choose one from the list already proposed by the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), Pramono said here on Monday.

The president has received the list of candidates from Coordinating Minister for Law, Security and Political Affairs Luhut Panjaitan who is the chairman of Kompolnas.

"So far there has been no one nominated to be the new chief," Pramono said.

Asked about the possibility of keeping Badrodin in office after his retirement age, Pramono said "It is also up to President Joko Widodo."

Meanwhile, chairman of the Commission III of the House of Representatives Bambang Soesatyo the president should be given full freedom to exercise authority in choosing the right candidate to replace Badrodin Haiti.

"Everyone should restrain from seeking to force the president to chose a new police chief on political motivation. Give him full freedom to chose one," Bambang said.

He said the president should not find it too difficult to chose one among the many "good and capable candidates."

Deputy Police chief Com.Gen. Budi Gunawan already passed the fit and proper test and there are other such as head of the National Anti Narcotics Agency (BNN) Com.Gen. Budi Waseso, and Head of the National Anti Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Com.Gen. Tito Karnavian, he cited.

"The president should just follow the procedure as set in the Law No.2 of 2002 that regulates the police retirement age and extension of term of office for one having exceptional skills needed by the state," he said.

He said the president seems to need a police chief who could give him maximum support to create a conducive climate for the acceleration of his investment program.
