Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian rupiah closed stronger at Rp13,256 per dollar in the Jakarta inter-bank spot market on Tuesday evening, up 114 points from the previous close of Rp13,370 per dollar.

"The rupiah continued its rally to a level of Rp13,200 per dollar. The easing of sentiment in view of the looming rise in the US benchmark rate is one of the factors pushing the rupiah to increase," chief researcher of Monex Investindo Futures, Ariston Tjendra, said here on Tuesday.

In her speech, Chief of the US Federal Reserve Janet Yellen has sent a cautious signal about raising the US benchmark rate only in stages but without setting any exact date for it.

"The comment made by the chief of the Fed is still positive for the economy though she declined to reveal specific date for effecting an interest rate hike."

The rupiah also rose due to the sentiment on account of global oil price hike. On Tuesday, WTI crude was sold at US$49.89 dollar per barrel, up 0.40 percent, while Brent Crude was sold at US$ 50.78 per barrel, an increase of 0.45 percent

Ekonomist Samuel of Sekuritas Rangga Cipta said the rupiah strengthened along with a vast majority of currencies in Asia.
