Langkat, N Sumatra (ANTARA News) - A whirlwind damaged at least 11 houses in Sei Bingei Sub district of North Sumatra Province on Monday.

"At least 11 houses and a public hall were damaged in the whirlwind disaster in Sei Bingei," the Head of the sub district, Asnawati, said here on Tuesday.

The disaster that occurred at 18.00 pm damaged two houses in Pasar 4 area and four houses in Pasar 8 area.

The whirlwind also hit five houses located in Namu Ukur Village, damaging the roofs.

According to Asnawati, the local administration reported the disaster to the highest officers.

Additionally, the Head of Langkat Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency, Irwan Syahri, noted that his institution has checked the condition of the village.

Syahri added that the officers will also check and calculate further loss to date.

He informed that as per the preliminary data, at least 11 houses were damaged.

The agency has also distributed assistance to the people hit by the whirlwind.

The victims included people named Yamin, Pariono, Nasib, Sarno and Sutrisno.

Previously, on last Friday and Saturday, the whirlwind had hit Beruam hamlet and Pekan Kuala village of Kuala sub district and an area in Bahorok sub district.

The disaster had damaged 48 houses --- 38 in Kuala Sub district and 10 buildings in Bahorok Sub district.(*)
