Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The construction of an 84-kilometer-long toll road connecting Serang and Panimbang in Banten Province is scheduled for completion in 2018, according to Banten Governor Rano Karno.

"We hope the construction of the Serang-Panimbang toll road will be completed and will become operational in 2018," the governor stated here on Wednesday.

According to Karno, the toll road construction project is aimed at accelerating development in Banten Province, following the signing of an agreement outlining the road construction site on June 29.

After finalizing the site for the Serang-Panimbang toll road construction, the next stage will involve the acquisition of land for the project.

In addition, the Banten governor said the Serang-Panimbang toll roads construction also aims to support tourism in the Tanjung Lesung Special Economic Zone and the Ujung Kulon National Park and to overcome economic disparity between the northern and southern areas of Banten Province.

Karno remarked that the construction of the Serang-Panimbang toll road was divided into three sections: Serang-Rangkasbitung, Rangkasbitung-Bojong, and Bojong-Panimbang.(*)
