Poso, C Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Military (TNI) Headquarters and the National Police (Polri) Headquarters will soon send an investigating team to probe the circumstances in which 2nd Sergeant Muhammad Ilman was shot during the Tinombala operation in Poso, Central Sulawesi, on Wednesday.

"Let us await the result of the investigation conducted by the TNI Headquarters and the Polri Headquarters," Chief of the Central Sulawesi Provincial Police, Brigadier General Rudy Sufahriadi, told journalists in Poso on Wednesday night.

Asked about a media report that said Ilman was shot dead by a member of the polices mobile brigade (Brimob), Rudy clarified that the member of the intelligence team of the Tadulako 132 Military Resort Command (Korem) died of a gunshot.

He admitted that there had been some technical mistake and lack of coordination in the field while security agencies conducted operations at Towi village, Poso Pesisir Utara sub-dictict, Poso at around 12.30 p.m. local time.

Asked to comment on whether people who were put on the wanted list for terrorism were involved in the firefight, he advised to wait for the result of the investigation.

Second Sergeant Muhmmad Ilman died after he was shot during the Tinombala operations. After he was checked into the Poso General Hospital for four hours, the body of Muhammad Ilman was taken to the Central Sulawesi provincial capital of Palu. His body is being laid in state at the Raksatama infantry battalion station in Palu.

The body of Muhammad Ilman will be flown to the South Sulawesi provincial capital of Makassar on Thursday morning for burial at his hometown.(*)
