Cilacap (ANTARA News) - At least 11 fishermen from Pemalang, Central Java, were reported missing in the sea off Pangandaran, West Java, a rescue team said here on Thursday.

Coordinator of the Cilacap Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Mulwahyono said he received report of lost contact with the Pisang VI vessel at 21.00 local time on Wednesday.

"According to report from Chairman of the Cilacap Sea Accident Rescue Team Pak (Mr) Woyo, the vessel left the Cilacap fish port at 11.00 on Wednesday with 11 crew men for fishing in the Indian Ocean," Mulwahyono said.

He said after the loss of contact with the 18-meter, 18 GT long line vessel at night at 21.00, there was report from Pangandaran fishermen that they saw a vessel capsized in the sea off the Pangandaran peninsula.

"There is no report yet about the fate of the 11 fishermen, all from Pemalang," he said.

The fishermen were identified as Bayu, Danang, Teguh, Fresmo, Aris, Arisman, Agus, Eko, Kunto, Latip, and Karjo.

Mulwahyono said a search and rescue team has been sent from Cilacap to Pangandaran.

The authorities have repeatedly warned fishermen of danger with angry sea.
