Jakarta (ANTARA News)- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) kicked off the Tenth National Jamboree coinciding with the 55th anniversary of the Indonesian Scout Day during a ceremony held in Cibubur Scout Camping Ground, here, Sunday.

The ceremony was attended by some 25 thousand scouts from Indonesias 34 provinces and 225 foreign scout members participating in the jamboree.

High ranking officials present in the ceremony included Coordinating Minister for Cultural and Human Development Puan Maharani, Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Imam Nahrawi, Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy, and leaders of ASEAN member countries scout movements.

Head of the National Headquarters of Indonesias Scout Movement Adhyaksa Dault said the scout movement has played a significant role in helping shape the national characters.

The National Scout Movement awarded medals of merit to 38 prominent figures for their significant contribution for the progress of the movement.

Indonesian former president Megawati Soekarnoputri was among the awardees.

The national jamboree is a forum to strengthen brotherhood and friendship among scouts.
