Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA News) - Relations between Indonesia and Malaysia have been on the right track and will continue to strengthen in the future, Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Herman Prayitno said.

"I am among those who believe that historical and traditional relations which have been established for centuries will continue to serve as an important factor to enhance cooperation between the two countries," he said while addressing a diplomatic reception night marking the 71st Indonesian Independence Day on Thursday (August 18).

The reception at the Ballroom of Hotel Royal Chulan brought together some 700 invitees, including Malaysian senior officials, diplomats of friendly countries, businessmen, academics and journalists, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur stated in a press statement.

Among the honorary guests was Malaysian Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Utilities, Dato Seri Hamzah Bin Zainuddin.

Referring to the annual consultation meeting between Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib, in Jakarta on August 1, 2016, the ambassador said the governments of the two neighboring nations will make constant efforts to find appropriate solutions to the question of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia for the good of each other.

Among the highlights of the diplomatic reception were an angklung music show, dance and live music.
