Makassar (ANTARA News) - Australia is ready to offer kangaroo satays as part of its special menu at the Eight International Festival and Forum 2016, better known as F8, at Losari Makassar, South Sulawesi, on September 8-19, 2016.

Head of the Promotion Department of Tourism and Creative Economy of Makassar Mohammad Roem stated in the city on Monday that the satays made using the meat of kangaroos, which are native to the country, will certainly draw visitors to the F8.

"The Australian side has been informed to introduce kangaroo satays at the event later. It is certainly interesting as it has never been served in Makassar and even possibly in Indonesia," he remarked.

Kangaroo is not an endangered animal in Australia. However, the matter relating to kangaroo meat being halal is still being discussed by the Indonesian Ulema Council, although some parties have permitted the consumption of the meat.

"The Australian side has decided to offer special kangaroo satays at the event later. The menu is certainly unique and will be an interesting delicacy to sample," he affirmed.

It has also made various preparations, including for the pre-event or test the readiness of the organizers.

"We will organize the event along Losari Beach or from the pavilion bearing the names of heroes to the Mandar Pavilion," he revealed.

He stated that the F8 will also feature a variety of special events, such as a film festival; fashion show; culinary, flower, and fine arts exhibitions; folk and fusion jazz performances; and fiction writing.

It is also hoped that all parties, especially the public, will offer full support for the success of these special activities.

"The opening ceremony will be held in the city of Makassar at the Makassar Bugis Pavilion at Losari Beach," he added.
