Hangzhou (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana met with Chinese President Xi Jinping ahead of the G20 Summit in Hangzhou in the Chinese province of Zhejiang on Friday.

"I am glad to be able to meet again with President Xi Jinping. Indonesia fully supports Chinas chairmanship of G20. I am convinced that under his stewardship, the G20 meeting will be successful and smooth," he stated after the meeting at the West Lake State Guest House.

The president said China is Indonesias important partner in various fields, including trade, investment and tourism.

"I am convinced the meeting will strengthen bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and China," he added.

He reiterated that he wished to focus on economic cooperation during the discussions and hoped China would consider Indonesia an important strategic partner.

"The partnership between Indonesia and China must be able to contribute to world peace and prosperity. The two countries have had a comprehensive strategic partnership and this must be fully implemented," he stressed.

President Jokowi said in principle he agreed with "the plan of action for the implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership 2016-2020" between Indonesia and China.

"We support the concept of sustainability as well as cooperation in the field of politics, economy and social-culture," he underlined.

During the meeting, President Jokowi was flanked by several cabinet ministers including Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Panjaitan, Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukito, Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara, cabinet secretary Pramono Anung and head of the Capital Investment Coordinating Board, Thomas Lembong.(*)
