Jember, East Java (ANTARA News) - Seven countries and 15 districts/cities in Indonesia will participate in the international Jember Open Marching Competition (JOMC) to be held in Jember, East Java, on Sept 23-25, 2016.

"Among the participants in the 5th JOMC international championship, there were 28 marching bands from seven countries and 15 districts/cities in Indonesia," said Chief Executive of JOMC Tri Basuki in Jember on Wednesday.

The seven countries participating in this years annual event are Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, South Africa, Taiwan, China, and Thailand.

According to Basuki, some participants have already begun to arrive, and all participants will have arrived in Jember District by Thursday (Sept 22).

"The rehearsal for all participants will be carried out in three places: Jember Sport Garden (JSG), Jembers main square in Jalan Sudarman, and the GOR Polytechnic of Jember," he remarked.

A welcome party organized by the Jember Regent, Faida, has been scheduled in Wahya Wibawa Graha Jember, followed by the opening of the competition the next day, on Friday (Sept 23), when a marching band show and drum battle will also be held in JSG Stadium.

"There are three places that will be used for JOMC: the JSG Stadium, Jember main square, and GOR Polytechnic of Jember. This year, the competition will take place outdoors in contrast to previous years, when it was held in a room at the GOR PKPSO Kaliwates," he noted.

Tri explained that the JOMC championship was the biggest event in Asia, thanks to the support of the Union Drum Band Indonesia, Asian Marching Band Confederation, and the Winter Guard International-USA.

"The biggest event in Asia that will be attended and assessed immediately by 11 international judges from five countries and a national jury with several assessment categories correspond to the categories of competition," he said.

The marching show band will be assessed on their performances of music, movement and dance, with each participant getting 10-12 minutes. A minimum of 40 people and a maximum of 150 people will play in the band.

The drum battle and brass battle both require a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 30 players.
