Jakarta (Antara News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) led a ceremony to commemorate the Pancasila Sanctity Day at the Pancasila Sanctity Monument, Lubang Buaya, East Java, here, at around 8am local time.

President Jokowi was accompanied by Vice President M Jusuf Kalla, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto, Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy, Commander of the Indonesian Military Forces (TNI) General Gator Nurmantyo, and Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama.

The text of Indonesias ideology, Pancasila, was read out by Chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan, and the text of Indonesias 1945 Constitution was read out by Deputy Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) Farouk Muhammad.

Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Ade Komarudin read out and signed a Pledge Script, and Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin said a prayer.

October 1 is Pancasila Sanctity Day in Indonesia. This observance commemorates the events of the 30 September Movement in 1965.

The pro-Communist officers of the Indonesian National Armed Forces staged a political revolt in the early hours of October 1, 1965. Six army generals were kidnapped and later killed. Their bodies were dumped into the pit Lubang Buaya. ***4***
