We are neutral and we actively encourage all candidates to be a reference for the entire electorate."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla has reminded the National Committee of Indonesian Youth (KNPI) to not only focus on the political realm, but also on a wider field, according to KNPI Chairman Muhammad Rifai Darus.

"The vice president has said the youths can have the opportunity to engage in politics, but they should not only focus on it," Rifai remarked at the vice presidential office here on Wednesday.

According to the vice president, young men should participate in broader political practices, but the process should be gradual.

KNPI is the national youth council of Indonesia. It is a member of the World Assembly of Youth (WAY).

The national scouting organization, Gerakan Pramuka, brings together one of the largest youth movements in the country.

According to the 2012 census of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), its Indonesian member association has 21.6 million members, making it the largest national scouting organization.

KNPI, as a youth organization, consists of all youth groups from across the political parties, so that its own political movement must be neutral, added Rifai.

"We are neutral and we actively encourage all candidates to be a reference for the entire electorate," he said.

Furthermore, he noted, members of the KNPI are allowed to engage in politics, as long as they are not using the umbrella organization.
