If the plan goes well, I think the government should seriously encourage the development of cyber defense industry in the country."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is focusing on building a cyber defense industry in the country, which is in line with the plan for PT Pindad, the Indonesian state-owned enterprise specializing in military and commercial products.

The plan is to produce such a cyber defense device, a cyber security expert Pratama Persadha said.

On the sidelines of the security and defense technology exhibition, Indo Defense 2016, here on Thursday, Pratama welcomed PT Pindads plan, which has been popular as a weapons manufacturer, to start producing cyber defense devices.

"Of course this is a very good plan, let alone Pindad is widely known inside and outside the country. If the device is already built and operated, it will complement the cyber security devices made by the Indonesians," he said.

In fact, he said, PINDAD has already built a subsidiary to conduct research on cyber defense devices and the production processes.

Pindad sees that weapons, which are equipped with digital technology, will be needed and demanded during the next few years, especially in 2015, when there were 48.8 million reports of cyber attacks in Indonesia.

"If the plan goes well, I think the government should seriously encourage the development of cyber defense industry in the country. It is important, in addition to providing jobs, building a cyber defense system in the country will deliver us from dependence on foreign technology," he said.

In addition to PT Pindad, a local industry that develops cyber security devices is Indoguardika PT Indoguardika Cipta Kreasi (ICK).

ICK has been known as a manufacturer of the anti-dapping device; it already has branches in Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, Pratama said.
