Nusa Dua (ANTARA News) - The Interpol has praised the contribution of and the active role played by the Indonesian Police in the field of international cooperation, something the world community needs in these times.

"The Indonesian Police is one of the most supportive and active members in the international police cooperation framework," Interpols Secretary General Jurgen Stock said at the 85th Interpol General Assembly in Nusa Dua, Bali on Monday.

According to him, the Indonesian Police has been supporting many cross border operations, both in regional and international arenas.

Indonesia, Stock added, supports information sharing, a mechanism needed to deal with demands of international security.

Indonesia also provides training to deal with cross border crimes, including cybercrime, the most common of the crimes now.

Meanwhile, Police General Tito Karnavian said hosting the Interpol General Assembly is an honor for Indonesia.

He explained that the participants discussed a number of issues, including preventing terrorism and other cross border crimes, such as drug smuggling, human trafficking, illegal fishing and cybercrimes.

At least 1,000 delegations from 164 countries are participating in the Interpol General Assembly.
