Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo congratulated US president-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday and expressed his readiness to continue the mutually beneficial cooperation with that country.

"On behalf of the government and the people of Indonesia, I congratulate the people of the US over their presidential election," he said after opening an International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) 2016 at Hotel Allium in Tangerang, Banten province in West Java.

He added that the presidential election was a reflection of the will of the American citizens and, therefore, he specially congratulates president-elect Donald Trump.

"The result of the presidential election is a reflection of the will of the American people and I have congratulated president-elect Donald Trump," he noted.

President Jokowi, as he is also called, said Indonesia was ready to continue the mutually beneficial cooperation with the US.

"I also invited the US president-elect to continue the cooperation to build world peace and prosperity," he stressed.

Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the race for the 45th US president.

The billionaire from the Republican Party won the presidential election that has been considered the most divisive in the US history.

Trump, aged 70, has become the oldest elected US president.(*)
