Depok, W Java (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) thanked officers of the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) Corp of the National Police (Polri) for guarding the November 4 rally professionally.

"I want to thank all the members of the Brimob Corp of the Police across Indonesia for their hard work, solidity and professionalism in guarding the November 4 rally that ran peacefully and orderly until Maghrib (sunset)," he said before Brimob officers, at the Brimob Headquarters, here on Friday.

As the highest chief of the Indonesian Police, he instructed every officer to stay vigilant toward any security disturbance.

No matter how small the disturbance is, it must be tackled immediately without waiting for the problem to become bigger, the president said.

President Jokowi also asked the police to give protection to every Indonesian citizen and make them feel safe regardless of their races, religions, tribes and groups.

Every police officer, including Brimob members, must maintain communication with the public and ask them to prioritize the national unity for a peaceful, orderly and united Indonesia, he added.

He also asked Brimob Corp to remain loyal to and abide by the state philosophy Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

While carrying out each task, Brimob must always maintain solidity and honor, he added.

The Head of State was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian, Deputy Police Chief Commissioner General Syafruddin, and Commander of Police Mobile Brigade Corp Inspector General Murad Ismail during his visit to the Brimob headquarters.

On Thursday, Jokowi visited the headquarters of the Special Force Command (Kopassus) of the Indonesian Army at Cijantung, Jakarta, to give directives to some 1 thousand officers of Kopassus.

"This is a reserve force; in case of an emergency, this is the reserve force that I could deploy," he told the press after giving his directives to the officers in Cijantung.

He said that as the Highest Commander of Indonesian Military, through the Commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), he could deploy Kopassus for special purposes.(*)
