Jakarta, Nov 18 (Antara) - Thousands of military and police officers, as well as local communities held a joint mass prayer at the National Monument (Monas) here on Friday morning.

Similar joint prayers were also organized in other locations including churches, temples and other places of worship, according to a statement of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) headquarters.

The joint prayer was aimed at seeking help from God the Almighty to maintain peace across Indonesia.

TNI Chief General Gatot Nurmantyo attended the event in Monas organized for Muslims.

Among prominent religious figures attending the joint prayer were Arifin Ilhan, Nabil Al-Musyafah, Father Kristoporus Puspo, Priest LTB Pasaribu, Hindu Priest I Made Putra Yadnya and Colonel Caj I Gede Suandiyasa.

Among officers joining the event were 16,583 Army personnel; 2,500 Naval officers; 1,065 Air Force officers; and 3,000 police officers.

Also participating were 5 thousand orphans and 3 thousand members of Al Quran recital groups.

Other locations holding similar events were Immanuel Church in Gambir, Catholic Cathedral, HKBP Church in Cililitan, Indonesia Church in Kwitang, and Mustika Dharma Temple in Cijantung.(*)
