"Let us make this event our common commitment to spread the spirit of love, first to God Almighty, and second to our nation of Indonesia," Yenny Wahid said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Yenny Wahid, an Islamic woman activist and the daughter of Indonesias former president Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid, asked the participants of the Apel Nusantara Bersatu (The United Nusantara Rally) on Wednesday to spread the spirit of love for Indonesia.

Initiated by Indonesian Military Forces (TNI) Chief General Gatot Nurmantyo, the United Nusantara Rally on Wednesday was held not only at the Monas Square in Jakarta but also in all other provinces across the country.

In Jakarta, the rally to strengthen the sense of national unity and integrity was attended by the TNI chief and National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian.

Among 40 thousand people attending the rally, there were religious leaders, students, musicians, youth, humanists, community organizations and other national components.

"Let us make this event our common commitment to spread the spirit of love, first to God Almighty, and second to our nation of Indonesia," Yenny said in her oration at the rally.

Before tens of thousands of participants of the rally, Yenny said she had been to many different countries but she found that Indonesia was a paradise on earth.

"There is no country like Indonesia, which is made up of tens of thousands of islands and people of many ethnicities who live in harmony and peace. Therefore, let us continue to uphold and maintain this harmony and peace," she said.(*)
