Balikpapan (ANTARA News) - The number of tax amnesty program participants in Kalimantan is still low although this biggest island in Indonesia is rich in mining resources and oil palm plantations.

"Here (Kalimantan) the number of tax amnesty program participants is still small whereas it is rich in coal, oil palm plantations," the president said here on Sunday.

Therefore, the president will gather business people and ask them to join the tax amnesty program.

He said that on Monday (Dec 5) he will invite some 3,000 business players and members of society to take part in tax amnesty program.

The Media, information and press bureau chief of the Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudi said a press statement on Sunday that the president will popularize the tax amnesty program at the Platinum here on Monday.

The tax amnesty popularization program in Balikpapan is the seventh city after Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Medan, Surabaya and Makassar.

According to the directorate general of taxation, the enthusiasm of the people was high. A total of 7,286 taxpayers were registered in the local tax offices.

There 7,286 taxpayers who have declared their assets to obtain the tax amnesty. Redemption funds have reached Rp980 billion.

President Jokowi and his wife Mrs Iriana Joko Widodo arrived at Aji Muhammad Sulaiman International Airport in Sepinggan, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, for a working visit in the province on Sunday.

The president arrived at the airport at 16.57 local time after flying on the Indonesia-1 presidential aircraft for two hours from Halim Perdanakusuma airport, Jakarta.

Bey Machmudin said that President Jokowi will popularize the governments tax amnesty program in Balikpapan.

Besides that, the president will also visit Sport & Convention Center (Dome) in Balipapan. There, the president will witness the handing over of land certificates issued under the Strategic Land Certificate Program 2016.(*)
