Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Hoax news is not a form of democracy, as it can undermine the democratic process, according to the Indonesian Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki.

"Indonesia is facing the challenge of intolerant practices, one of which is spreading hoax information and disseminating hate speeches on social media that have the potential to divide our nation," Masduki remarked at the National Museum here on Thursday.

According to Masduki, Indonesia is not the only country experiencing this phenomenon, as the practice of spreading hoax news has become a global problem.

Hence, Masduki emphasized that the government is trying to regulate the flow of information on social media, so that no false news and slander can cause tension in society.

Further, Masduki added that steps will be taken by the Indonesian government to combat the circulation of false news by working with social media platforms, such as Google, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, to stop the spread of slanderous advertising portals.
