... the things we carry with us throughout our life, and the things that draw us back."
Ubud, Bali, Feb 16 (Antara) - The 14th Ubud Writers and Readers Festival (UWRF) will be launched from Oct 25 to 29, 2017, under the theme Origins.

"It is an invitation to expand tolerance and empathy not only to fellow beings but also to the entire universe," UWRF director Janet DeNeefe said here on Thursday.

The theme, which is drawn from the Hindu philosophy "Sangkan Paraning Dumadi," speaks of the eternal connections of our origin and our ultimate place of return.

Throughout the festivals five-day program, the theme will unfold the powerful movements that have influenced and continued to shape the world---from the political to technological, environmental to spiritual---and their cyclical manifestations throughout our existence.

"It will challenge the audiences to consider the origins of the elements that shape us, the things we carry with us throughout our life, and the things that draw us back," DeNeefe noted.

According to UWRF, it is possible to create a change by widening our perspective and view of the world and not being concerned with individualism.

Meanwhile, Kuncir Sathya Viku, a Balinese artist who created the design of UWRF 2017 poster, said that he was inspired by the strength of a woman, who is responsible for bringing life into the earth.

The UWRF is not only considered as a forum to promote Indonesian literature and art but also a medium to address a number of major issues happening in the world today.

By hosting more than 160 speakers from 23 countries last year, UWRF 2017 will affirm its position as the worlds arena for meeting and sharing inspirational stories by both individuals and communities. It would also be Southeast Asias biggest literary festival.
