Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Communication and Informatc Minister Rudiantara has met with Twitter Director of Public Policy for Asia Pacific Kathleen Reen to discuss issues on fake news, fake account, hate speech in the social media.

The meeting has also discussed issues on ethnicity, religion and inter-group relations (SARA), terrorism, and violence shared through the social media, the ministrys Director General of Application and Informatics Samuel A Pangerapan said here, Monday.

"The ministry and Twitter shared the same concern on issues in the social media, especially regarding to terrorist activities, fake account, content linked to SARA, violence and cruel behavior," Samuel said.

On the issue of fake account, he said, Twitter and the ministry would encourage users to verify their accounts.

Verified accounts would be marked with blue check, a move that have already been taken by celebrities to avoid their accounts from being falsified.

The two parties have also agreed to work on cooperation in digital literacy, with active Twitter accounts in Indonesia has reached 35 millions.

Samuel said, Twitter should comprehend Indonesias legal context, especially on contents distributed through the social media, because each country has their own law.

The meeting has also discussed efforts to improve services to users. Twitter has agreed to respond quickly to address negative content, Samuel said.(*)
