Kuala Pembuang, C Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - As many as 22 villages in Seruyan district, Central Kalimantan province, have been flooded in the past few weeks due to high rainfall.

The flood began to affect the villages on February 24, a local resident, Fauzan said on Sunday.

"As a result of the flood, several schools were forced to temporarily close down," he said.

The 22 flood-hit villages are found in the sub-districts of Danau Seluluk, Batu Ampar and Seruyan Tengah, and Hanau.

In Hanau sub-district, two-meter deep flood water has submerged several villages, including Parang Batang, Bahaur, Paring Raya and Tanjung Rangas.

The head of Tanjung Paring village said the two-meter deep flood water has paralyzed the local peoples activities and submerged 70 hectares or paddy field.

"Ninety two families in Tanjung Paring village cannot carry out their activities now due to flood," he said.(*)
