Malang, E Java (ANTARA News) - A whirlwind struck Lang Lang village in East Javas Malang district on Tuesday, leaving seven people injured and 248 houses damaged.

The whirlwind caused serious damage to 33 houses, moderate damage to 134 houses and light damage to 81 houses, spokesman for the Malang district disaster mitigation board (BPBD) Bagyo Setyono said.

"No fatalities have been reported. However, two people were seriously injured and five others were lightly wounded," he said.

The whirlwind also destroyed clean water pipelines and electricity poles, he added.

Bagyo did not rule out the possibility that the number of houses damaged in the disaster will increase. Power blackout in affected areas had made it difficult for the BPBD team to check and record the number of houses damaged.(*)
