Pekanbaru (ANTARA News) - Police in the Riau provincial capital of Pekanbaru have handed over six Bangladeshi nationals to the local immigration office after arresting them on Friday (March 17).

"At around 1.10 p.m. local time, members of the detective unit of the Tenayan Raya police precinct handed over the six Bangladeshi nationals to the Pekanbaru city immigration office," spokesman for the Pekanbaru city police 2nd Inspector Dodi Vivino said here.

The immigration office had been checking their immigration documents, including passports.

"The six Bangladeshi citizens are being detained at the Pekanbaru city immigration office," he said.

The Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Hossain, Quddus, M. Djahural, Rahman, Mondol and Kamaruzaman.

The police had arrested the Bangladeshi citizens while conducting a raid. They were arrested aboard a Daihatsu Terrios jeep.

According to the jeeps driver Asril, who is a resident of Kampar district, the Bangladeshi nationals were traveling from Dayun in Siak district to the inter-city inter-province bus terminal in Pekanbaru when the police arrested them.

However, after interrogating the Bangladeshi nationals, the detective unit of the Tanayan Raya police precinct found no evidence indicating that they had committed criminal offenses.

Chief of the Pekanbaru Immigration Office, Pria Wibawa, confirmed the arrest of the Bangladeshi nationals.
